I’m not sure I get where all the hate for Duke Nukem Forever comes from.  I’ve seen some absolutely horrendous reviews for the game.  I’m not exactly sure what people were expecting.  A game that has been in development hell for 12 years with multiple restarts for various reasons.  We aren’t looking at a game that had 12 years of solid development time which was used to evolve the game to a masterpiece.  Hell…the game was even cancelled at one point and was lucky to have Gearbox Software revive the project and bring it to completion so it could see the light of day.  Finally, Duke Nukem Forever wouldn’t be the longest running vaporware joke.

Is Duke Nukem Forever perfect?  Of course not.   We’ve had 12 years worth of other FPS games showing the evolution of the genre.  If this game actually came out in a reasonable timeframe following Duke Nukem 3D, I think the game would have had much favorable reviews.

What do I think of the game?  I enjoyed it.   It felt like Duke Nukem 3D with better graphics (not great by today’s standards…but again…12 years in development hell).  Now, I was a huge fan of Duke Nukem 3D.  My friend Nick and I played that game constantly over the course of the year.  I still have the original box for the Atomic Edition of the game that I bought at Babbages.  We even got the Duke Assault pack which came with 1500 extra levels.   Sure, I played Quake, Doom and all the other shooters along the way, but Duke Nukem has always been a favorite for me.

To me, Duke Nukem Forever has everything that made the original a blast to play.  The Duke one-liners, fun things to interact with in the levels, strippers (sorry, I’m a guy), fun enemies to kill and interesting levels.  Plus, add in some decent multiplayer and I’m happy.  Again, I’m not giving it Game of the Year awards, but come on…this game isn’t dogshit like many of reviews are painting it out to be.

I would have my doubts we’ll ever see another Duke Nukem game (or any game for that matter) out of 3D Realms.  I’d love to see a return of Shadow Warrior, so maybe Lo Wang will come out of retirement next.

Again, this isn’t a full review of the game, but if you are a fan of Duke Nukem, give the game a try and I think you’ll enjoy it.  The game at least deserves a rental.  If nothing else, for good or bad, Duke Nukem Forever is a big part of gaming history and I’m glad Gearbox Software went out on a limb to bring it to us gamers.

PS – Nick, if you are reading this review.  Last time we talked we said we’d talk again when Duke Nukem Forever came out...didn’t think it would be this long.   Hit me up!

E3 2011 is practically upon us and I just wanted to talk about some of the things I’m looking forward to.  I guess you can call this a slight preview of E3 2011, but I’m not going to cover everything, just the things I’ve got my eyes on.

Project Café/Wii 2/WiiHD or whatever you want to call it.  There have been tons of rumors going around about what Project Café will be.  Will it just be a Nintendo Wii with HD graphics?  Doubtful.  It’ll have HD graphics, no doubt, but this is Nintendo we are talking about here.  What will they add to the Wiimote?  How will they change how we play games?  Will they include some sort of camera akin to the Kinect?

NGP/PSP2/PS Vita – Hopefully, Sony gives us all the information about their upcoming handheld.  Release date and more importantly, its price.  I guess it’ll be nice to know the real name as well.  Will it actually be called the PS Vita?  We know that UMD is out, so what media will Sony be using for games?  Have any of the specs changed?  I’ve heard some rumors that they will be making some slight cuts in the hardware in order to keep the price down.

From a game perspective, I really want to see if BioWare announces a release date for Star Wars: The Old Republic.  I haven’t been playing MMOs lately as I just don’t have the time, so I haven’t been following this game at all.  I’m going into it completely in the dark.  I’m guessing that they’ll release it late in September.

Speaking of release dates, we should also hear more about The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and hopefully get a release date.  This will probably be one of the last big titles that Nintendo puts out for Nintendo Wii.

On the Nintendo 3DS front, I’m really curious to see Super Mario 3DS.  Is raccoon Mario coming back?  Pretty excited to see another big handheld Mario game.

Moving on to Microsoft…we’ll probably see TONS of Gears of War coverage.  I’m sure we’ll also see a huge focus on upcoming Kinect games.  Might even get some information on a rumored Halo: Combat Evolved remake for 360 since this November is the 10th anniversary of the release of Halo.

Oh….and I want to see tons of information on Battlefield 3.  Forget Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield is my game.  Can’t wait!

I guess I haven't really posted this (however, you would know if you followed me on Twitter), but I did end up breaking down and getting a Nintendo 3DS last week at a midnight launch.  And today, after a full week of no luck, I finally passed someone with a Nintendo 3DS and Street Pass worked.  So welcome to my Nintendo 3DS MaBrown and Seloy!

If you are like me today, you are sitting at home and wondering if you should have reserved the Nintendo 3DS or wondering if you should trek out to the stores tomorrow (or maybe at midnight) to pick it up. I've honestly been holding off until I see some better games come out. Like it or not, the 3DS is here to stay. It's the successor to the Nintendo DS.  It's more powerful than the Nintendo DS and even if developers aren't sold on 3D technology, they will take their games to it.  So I wouldn't let the fear of the Nintendo 3DS turning into the next Nintendo Virtual Boy scare you away from a day one purchase.  It won't flop that bad.  Nintendo won't let it.  In recent weeks, we've seen Nintendo back away from their stance of having only 3D games on the Nintendo 3DS.

The only thing that should turn you away from a day one purchase, in my opinion, would be the lackluster launch game lineup.  Unfortunately, it's not going to get any better as April isn't going to see any new 3DS game releases either.  Eventually the game support will be there.  May, June and July looks to have some of the bigger game titles coming out.  Beyond that, we are still waiting to hear solid release dates for games.  Hopefully Nintendo will announce the release date (and it will be soon) for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS at E3 this year.

I know I've heard some people say "but Nintendo will be releasing a new version of the 3DS with better battery life and it'll be smaller!"  Sure, they'll release another 3DS.  No doubt about it.  However, it's going to be AT LEAST 18 months before we see that happen.

So what should you do?  It's up to you to decide.  I think if you have the money and don't mind the current launch titles and waiting a month for more games...go for it.  Hell, if you have a Nintendo DSi or DSi XL, there are some trade-in deals at Walmart and GameStop that can give you up to $100 in trade-in credit.   Might as well take advantage of these deals while they last and while the trade-in value is still high on these systems.

I've been dealing with a 32" Philips TV running at 1080i for a number of years. I loved that TV, it was really nice just maybe on the small size for the space where it is. I recently decided it was time to upgrade to a larger TV more towards the size of 55" and support of 1080p. My quest started and ended at BJs, surprisingly since they had the best deal. If you are not familiar with BJs then you could relate them to COSTCO, PriceClub, or Sams Club. Same type of place just different name.

Last Friday I decided to forgo what I saw the previous month and go directly to Best Buy where I was slammed in the face with high prices no where near what I wanted to spend for what I was getting. I wanted one thing... A big LED TV and all I could find sub $1500 was LCD or Plasma less than 40". Don't even think about 3D that was just a wet dream gone bad.

After leaving Best Buy disgruntled I hit up a place we have in Long Island, NY called Sixth Avenue Electronics where I've been before and liked. I probably would have been better off buying a TV at Radio Shack or the Flea Market. Yes it was that bad. Not only did I see nearly anything compared to what Best Buy had, their TVs were all fuzzy and just a terrible experience. Their old 5" black and white portable TV looked better than their displays. Imagine that! Of course their high end TVs, you know above $4000, were all set up perfectly. Bullshit!

Even more disgruntled than I was when I left Best Buy I ended up going back to BJs which I thought was a joke since hell it's BJs you don't buy electronics like this here. I was wrong. Not only did I find a bunch of spectacular TVs for the right price, I found the TV that I wanted. Before I get into that I'll start with the TV I almost bought.

Samsung 55", 1080P LED for $1570 and had a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1 and ran at 120Hz. Definitely a formidable TV for the price. I then found a Samsung 46" LED TV with a contrast ratio of 6,000,000:1 and ran at 240Hz. This TV was ALSO a 3D TV. On top of that this bundle had two pairs of rechargeable 3D Glasses ($400 value) included for $1599.99. A great deal for a Samsung of that size.

I came home and set up the TV and have been quite happy with it so far. The Internet TV is awesome which includes things like Netflix, HuluPlus, Yahoo, YouTube and other Apps which takes away from usage of my Xbox and PlayStation 3 for these tasks. With 4 HDMI ports, Ethernet, 2 USB and various other ports this TV is ready to be hooked up and play anything you throw at it. The UI is very simple to use and does not cause confusion. Total set up time with this TV took a very short amount of time and tweaking was just as easy.

Problem with 3D is that there really is no contact. From Bluray discs to Cable TV I can barely find anything in 3D which really sucks since I wanna try 3D. The good news is it doesn't matter. I don't know if other TVs can do this but I can tell you that this Samsung will simulate 3D giving amazing depth to movies, cartoons, and even video games. Absolutely awesome and makes watching TV so much different. Design wise the remote is easy to use and very well organized and the TV design is slim with a tiny bezel that makes your TV really stand out. This baby is all screen. Awesome stuff!

If you are in the market for a TV I highly recommend the Series 7 7100 LEDTV which I can't seem to find on the BJs or Samsung website at the time of this writing. Check your local stores and you should be able to find it.
