I think there are about a million different iPad cases out there. This new one from Speck is absolutely awesome.
When the iPad debuted Apple also released their own Apple iPad Case which, online, looked perfect! It didn’t detract from the size of the iPad and it had an Apple logo to boot! Problem is it didn’t offer enough protection outside of office/living room use. This is where Speck comes in.
The DustJacket for iPad - Black Leatherette from Speck is what the doctor ordered. Speck’s version is definitely much thicker than Apple’s own but offered much more protection and has some great features to make it an all around perfect case.
The DustJacket covers the iPad like a book with two nice solid panels wrapped in faux leather that has a stylish appeal to everyone. The iPad sits snug in its plastic encasement protecting all four sides as well as the back from scratches and dents. Trust me this iPad is not going anywhere and is a pain to take out, which you shouldn’t ever need to do anyway. What's also nice is that every port and control is wide open for easy access while the case is open or closed. The inside of the DustJacket has nice soft fleece to safeguard to iPad screen from scratches. While the DustJacket is on the thick side and can be a little heavy to hold sometimes, its well worth dealing with the extra features this case has.
Not only is the iPad very protected, it also has features built in to make it easier to read and type with. The DustJacket folks in multiple ways to either act as a stand to watch movies or read books and can also fold inwards to enable easier typing, giving the iPad some angled elevation.
I absolutely love the DustJacket for iPad by Speck, I can’t imagine another case around my iPad. I do have a few worries though. Like I said originally the iPad is not going anywhere and is certainly snug. I don’t ever worry about the iPad falling out of the case. However, if you have the case open and holding the iPad upright there is a slight sag which I feel puts a small strain on the plastic hinge. It’s not a major concern but something that should be noted. On another note, the DustJacket, like the original Apple one, lacks a latch or leather strap to keep the DustJacket closed when not in use like say in your bag where it could get pulled open.
For just about the same price of the Apple iPad Case you might as well go this route to protect your little investment and have peace of mind that your iPad is not going to be accidentally damaged.
The DustJacket for iPad is available in red or black and for more information on the DustJacket for iPad check out Speckproducts.com.
