I just finished 'The Passing' today which is Left 4 Dead 2's new DLC which was made available for download on April 22nd, 2010. This campaign while short, only four maps, was a nice change in scenery and lots of fun. One of my favorite features of Left 4 Dead 2 was the uncommon infected like the Police, CEDA Agents, Workers, and Clowns. The Passing introduced a new uncommon infected, the Fallen Survivor, which carry items like health packs, weapons, adrenaline shots, etc. The Fallen Survivor will take flight opposed to fighting to help maintain the balance of the game due to the items they drop.
Left 4 Dead 2 already has a TON of weapons and The Passing added two more weapons; the M60 Machine Gun (awesome) and the golf club. The baseball bat, which was a bonus for those that pre-ordered L4D2, is now available for all. At the beginning of each map the baseball bat is still only available to those who pre-ordered. Valve also added Foot Lockers to L4D2 which have an infinite supply of a specific item like malatovs, bile bombs, pipe bombs, and pills/adrenaline and are random through the maps.
For the Xbox 360 version there are new achievements the apply to the new DLC some are easy and some appear impossible as always. The L4D2 survivors also cross paths with the survivors of the original L4D. Unfortunately only three of the survivors are there since one of the original survivors had to sacrifice themselves to save the original survivors. No mention of this is made in game, but subsequent DLC is coming for L4D that explains that story. I was disappointed that there was not more interaction between the groups of survivors and of course the death of my favorite character.
Overall the DLC is great, worth the 560 MS Points to download and free on PC. Visit L4D.com for more info.
