Dungeons and Dragons has interested me for many years. When I was in high school (this was when Prodigy was the gold standard in online services and 2400 bps modems were hot), I had friends-a-plenty who played the iconic dice game and, frankly, I had no idea how it worked.

Well I can be thankful soon enough that Atari is developing Dungeons and Dragons : Heroes of Neverwinter for the Facebook gaming platform. Now, D&D fans, the world over, will be able to create their custom characters and play D&D online against their Facebook friends and community members from around the globe.

D&D : Heroes of Neverwinter is based around the D&D 4th Edition rules, using the same character creation process. In gameplay, the players character's physical appearance and equipment is visible on the battlefield and as part of the character sheets to show off each players customizations.

In gameplay, players can meet up with friends in Fallcrest Town, buy equipment and chat with other visitors at the local tavern. It is here that players can join up on other players rosters. Players will be able to then use the Asynchronous multiplayer feature to take their Facebook friends on adventures to use their various skills, and in return, their Facebook friends earn experience and gain loot.

This exciting new D&D will allow both novice and advanced players to get a unique experience and enjoy this classic game. Expect D&D: Heroes of Neverwinter on Facebook this summer.
