I've had an iPhone 3G since it launched on July 11th, 2008. I'd have to admit that I have been quite happy with it and definitely was the best phone purchase I have made. Hell probably the best $300 I have ever spent... Anyway as an avid fan of the iPhone I was eagerly waiting for iPhone 3.0 to come out and actually ponied up the money to become a developer so I can get my hands on the OS before it was launched, and of course to do some projects...more of that another time. The features of iPhone 3.0 were great and got me really excited for the final build. What got me even more stoked was the rumor that I knew piece of iPhone hardware was coming out. Well the launch came and went and I was pretty much left annoyed. The iPhone 3GS didn't really sound like it was worth the money and appeared to be a pretty crappy upgrade. That was until I actually got my hands on it to try...
You see I saw the features and I said... hmmm another 2-3 bills for the same thing except better camera, video, and voice control. Oh and let's not forget the speed thing. 2X faster. Mhmmm sure.. The iPhone is already pretty fast, at least I thought. I told everyone I wasn't buying it...not worth the money. Why should I sign my life away for another 2 year contract on a shitty carrier.
So last night I signed two more years of my life to AT&T... twice. The wife had to have one as well after we both used the new 3GS.
We were completely taken aback at how much faster the iPhone 3GS really was and how, forgive the term, clunky the iPhone 3G compared was to the 3GS. The feature list of the new iPhone doesn't do the new hardware justice, between the screen coating (fabulous btw), hardware speed, internet downloads, general responsiveness, and most awesomely the voice control this is a win win win situation. Even though AT&T has been dropping the ball, delayed voicemails, dropped calls, no SMS *cough*, etc, the iPhone 3GS is definitely worth the upgrade if you are eligible.
