Today, Apple has announced that Google's CEO, Eric Schmidt has resigned from his position from the Apple board of directors, a position he has held since August 2006. Schmidt stepped down citing a conflict of interest between products of both Apple and Google. US Government regulations require the CEO to remove himself from any discussions about competing products that the two companies may have. Currently Apple and Google are now in direct competition on three hot markets Phone OSes, Netbook OSs, and of course Browsers. So with that Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, stated that Eric Schmidt's role in Apple would have been "significally diminished."
