Mobile News on World-Gaming Network

This mornings rumors about the iPad 2 was the possibility that there will be multiple wireless networks and on many different carriers. Now the newest bit of rumor news is that the iPad 2 will include a USB port.

Talked with colleague which working with some ODM vendors connected with Apple. He is research guy. According to his sources iPad2 will have usb port.

According to AppleInsider.com this came from Eldar Murtazin who is the editor in chief of the Mobile Review blog and is considered a very respected insider in the mobile industry. This could also be true due to an agreement with European manufacturers micro-USB ports become the standard charging port on mobile devices like the iPad and iPhone.

As I've mentioned before this is all speculative and nothing can be confirmed until Steve Jobs takes the stage and announces the iPad 2 which will be presumably sometime in February.

It appears that Apple may be preparing the iPad 2 to have different wireless configurations based on your wireless carrier.  Right now, the only carrier to natively support the iPad is AT&T.  Verizon's solution to sell the device was an external wireless hotspot device such as the Verizon MiFi.

However, if rumors are correct, this will be changing with the iPad 2 as it will be able to support UMTS, CDMA and Wi-Fi only.  The addition of CDMA will allow the device to run natively on Sprint and Verizon networks.

So if this rumor is true, it means that when the iPad 2 ships, you’ll have to pick a 3G model based on your carrier preference. If you don’t plan to be on the road a lot, there’s still the Wi-Fi option.

Support for both major wireless standards in the United States will make the iPad 2 available to a much larger potential audience, whereas before it was only available in the states from AT&T.

Whether Apple hammers out sales agreements with Verizon or Sprint remains to be seen.

Personally, I'd love to see Apple move further away from AT&T and open up the iPad and iPhone to different carriers in the future.  Specifically Sprint.  Hint Hint Apple!

According to the folks over at Evil Avatar, Ron Whitaker of Gamefront has advised that the first Android OS Unreal Engine based gamed will be coming very soon (This Week), and that title will be Dungeon Defenders : First Wave.

Of course, there is a hitch. Unless you have one of the newer Android OS devices, your device may not meet the minimum system requirements. These are some high expectations, especially the 400 MB storage. Most of my apps for my HTC Incredible range from 2 - 20 MB. I'd have to upgrade the microSD card in my device just to use this. Secondly, you best download this when you are in range of a WiFi hotspot you can access, especially if you have a dataplan with GB limit.

Dungeon Defenders : First Wave is the inaugural title for the Engine on Android, featuring cooperative multiplayer, online connectivity, and seemless drop-in-drop-out gameplay. As you might expect, all this awesomeness has a few minimum phone specs attached to it. Here's what you'll need in order to play Dungeon Defenders:

  • 512 MB RAM
  • 800 MHz Processor
  • 400 MB of storage

Here is an absolutely crazy thought I just had. This is merely a crazy thought with no indication from either Apple or Verizon on this subject. Just my own meandering thoughts.

We know that the White iPhone is coming soon; Soon as in Spring 2011. And of course there have been an insane amount of analyst babble and rumor mongering around the net that Verizon iPhone will be launched yesterday, today, tomorrow, next week, next month, next January, next summer... You get the picture. Is the Verizon iPhone coming? Only person that really knows is Steve Jobs and some Verizon head honcho. But let your mind wonder for a moment...

What if Apple released the white iPhone for Verizon only? No one said that the white iPhone is coming to AT&T just that it's going to be released right? If and when Verizon/Apple announced a Verizon iPhone the buzz will be immense, pure pandemonium will ensue as hordes of zom... people line up across the US to buy the Verizon iPhone. Now imagine an exclusive white iPhone for Verizon. Imagine what that could/would do? Would it alienate Apple supporters? I don't know.

Would it help sales or hinder sales? It won't happen but it would be fun to watch.
