So Joystiq is reporting an interesting rumor that sources claim Saber Interactive (makers of Timeshift) are going to be developing a re-make of the original Halo due out later this year. The report states that this would be a complete re-make and not just a higher resolution version of the game. Instead the team is reportedly going in a new art direction all together, and run the whole thing off of an engine different than the one in Halo: Reach. Other upgrades would include 1080p resolution, 3D support, and online co-op.

Apparently the game may release on November 15th to celebrate the anniversary of Halo and the Xbox, which is a sound idea. Only Mario has meant as much to a system as Master Chief and Halo does to the Xbox. If the project is true I do wonder why Bungie isn't at the helm on this one, as I actually would have liked to have seen them tweak some level design in the last parts of the game for a more rounded experience. After all, ten years is a long time and few genres have been aggressively advancing like First Person Shooters and a couple more refined updates wouldn't hurt.

Still, whether you love Halo or just don't get how people love it, you can't deny that for better or worse it was the game that laid the foundation for FPS's for the next ten years after its release. While the whole Halo 3 is the last one bit has turned out to be as honest as most predicted, Halo: CE is a game worthy of a little remembrance and as long as this rumor is true, I see no harm in giving it just that.

As long as it's about $30 worth of remembrance.
