Kevin has just posted his review of Arcade Essentials for Nintendo Wii. If you're not familiar with Arcade Essentials they are basically remakes of games that we all know and love like Asteroids and Space Invaders as well as other titles. Available from the Wii Shop Channel for 500 points, but is also available for iPhone and iPod touch as well and in 6 different languages. This modernization of arcade classic games provides many levels to unlock within 5 different arcade games.

Arcade Essentials encompasses the classic arcade game. Take Interceptor as an example. Clearly modeled after the classic Space Invaders, the player must shoot and destroy an ever approaching battery of enemy space ships which wander back and forth across the screen. There are twists, which include a mother ship that deploys more space ships (and must be destroyed itself) as well as multiple waves of attack per level. There are the addition of power-ups that drop from destroyed enemy ships giving you bonuses like shields and faster guns. This game was probably my favorite of the five.
