After the disc-less version of Netflix for the Xbox 360 launched, the PlayStation 3 got their own Netflix software but required a disc. Anyone who has used the PS3 or Nintendo Wii version know that getting up, finding the disc, and putting the disc in the system is a real pain. Netflix has vowed to bring a discless version to the PlayStation 3 this year when Netflix was first launched for the PS3. Apparently that may come true.
During Netflix's earning call CEO Reed Hastings had this to say:
"Before our next call in October, we expect to be launching a major new version of our Sony PS3 user interface which doesn't require a disc and is dynamically updated continuously with the latest Netflix UI improvements,"
Reed Hastings also went on to say how they are watching how PS3 users react to Hulu Plus and will use that data to find out what they like and incorporate that into Netflix as well. Good stuff!
