Recently, Elyas and I attended the LittleBigPlanet 2 launch party at the Sony Store in NYC. We got a late start, and because of my excellent Subway navigation skills, we ended up getting an even later finish. We ended up taking a bus over to the Sony Store. Neither of us had any idea that a Sony Store of this caliber existed, but we ended up finding it alright.

We made our way into the Sony Store, signed a waiver for to permit our gorgeous images being filmed and were led by some PR guys down into the basement, where some crazy after party was taking place. A PR guy introduced us to the person who broke the guinness world record for playing Little Big Planet for three days straight. The guy was pretty drunk and we had yet to make our way over to the bar, so it was a classic 'two journalists talk to an articulate yet highly intoxicated health care administrator/world record breaker scenario.' Elyas will provide some of the highlights from that interview shortly in a separate article.

After talking with him for fifteen minutes or so, Elyas made our way over to the bar, grabbed some beers and headed over to the LittleBigPlanet 2 station to try out the game. Because I don't own a PS3, I never actually had the opportunity to play LittleBigPlanet, so I had no idea what to expect. We played a series of seven tutorial levels, all of which were fantastic and were platforming-based. I know the new game allows you to play other types of level, and most oft the fun is supposed to come from creating and playing user generated content, it's hard to comment on what little was offered at the release. While the seven levels we were able to play utilized co-op mode in really inventive and interactive ways, I'd really have to sit down more with the game to give any real commentary.

After playing for a bit, we went over and talked to some of the developers/producers of the game, who all spoke really fast and in a wacky British dialect. They told us all about how the game is mostly community-driven, and that apparently there is over 75 years worth of levels already loaded into the game. Not hours, years. And that's assuming your a pro and playing the game at the rate of one level per every three minutes. Elyas really handled most of this interview, and he'll be posting some of the best stuff from this soon as well.

I got a few more beers and then started to play Fight Night with the Playstation Move, which I was laughably bad at. I didn't realize that  you were supposed to stand level to the camera, so I was kind of flailing like a moron until someone corrected me. All and all it was a good night and I've heard good things come out so far about Little Big Planet 2, as it really does seem to be a game with a HUGE amount of replay value.
