This is the first I've heard of this but the PlayStation Network 'intrusion' was thought to be pretty innocuous and only cause Sony to take down the servers to squelch the attack. The problem is after 5 days Sony has not made any mention about what has happened nor if any consumer information was pilfered during the attack. PCWorld is now reporting that Sony has yet to confirm whether or not sensitive information was compromised. Sensitive information being consumer credit card information, email addresses, physical addresses, etc.

Is your information safe? Sony spokesperson, Satoshi Fukuoka was unable to give a definitive answer and will let the consumer know if anything was compromised.

While some of you have been unable to enjoy games or services that you have purchased while the PlayStation Network has been down some gamers and developers have also been impacted like the Infamous 2 beta. The developer Sucker Punch announced via twitter that they will be extending the beta an unspecified length of time once the PlayStation Network is back online.

We've decided to extend the beta. Once PSN is back up we'll determine by how long, but rest assured: your outcry has been heard.

Thankfully some good can come out of the downtime associated with the network being down. As soon as we hear how long the beta will be extended we will let you know.

As many of you have been aware the PlayStation Network has been down for 5 days now which is the longest time PSN has been down and for some that is a lifetime. The biggest question on everyone's mind is what is Sony doing to fix it and when will it be up. Unfortunately those questions have yet to have been answered. Today Patrick Seybold, Senior Director of Corporate Communications and Social Media, gave us a much needed update albeit with really no new information in it.

I know you are waiting for additional information on when PlayStation Network and Qriocity services will be online. Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time.

As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we’re working to get them back online quickly. We’ll keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience.

As you can see they are still working on it which unfortunately doesn't fix much at this time when many of you can't play your favorite games, watch MLB.tv or Netflix. We will continue to bring you updates as we get them folks. Sit tight.

While the PlayStation Network is still down and it certainly does suck, we have to laugh a little. Some users have found other things to do while Sony scrambles to figure out what to do and how to get PSN back online. Take a look at one of our commenters had made.

PSN has been taken down

A new post just hit the PlayStation.Blog a few minutes ago basically apologizing for the downtime but giving no estimated time when the service would be back online. They know many of us are anxious to get back online and play our favorite games but we all need to be patient while they work on it. I am confident that Sony doesn't want the PSN down now either.

We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.

We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project. We will continue to give you updates as they become available.
