According to multiple sources, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg announced that they are working on a new Call of Duty, due out this year, that will offering features an "unprecedented online universe." Can you say Call of Duty MMO? Activision's Beachhead Studios is said to be the developer and is, according to Eurogamer, codenamed Project Colossus and has been in development for two years.
During the investor call earlier today, Hirshberg said all that he could without straight out calling it an MMO like Everquest or World of Warcraft. Take a look at some of the quotes from the call...
"This platform will include a suite of services and content plan that will unite and ignite the community like never before. The platform will support in-game integration and bring online experiences and console play together for the first time."
"The creative excellence and sheer scale of the game we are making, and the unprecedented online universe that will accompany it, will reset the bar for this genre, giving players a new level of immersion, connectivity, community and, of course, epic action."
If you break down the quotes and see words like "unprecedented online universe", "unite and ignite the community...", connectivity... community... epic action." You be the judge. Stay tuned as much more is expected to come out during E3 2011 in LA. Maybe, if we are lucky, there will be a playable demo of the next Call of Duty.
Rumors are indicating that Call of Duty aka Project Colossus will be hitting retail shelves November 8th, 2011.
