Now that the Call of Duty : Black Ops Multiplayer reveal is over what did we learn?

Mark Lamia, Studio Head for Treyarch, kicked off the event and took the stage saying that Treyarch went "all in" and refocused the entire studio just for Call of Duty. Lamia said that they have "never been more fired up that we are this year..."

The entire theme to Call of Duty: Black Ops is Compete, Customize and Create.

They started off by playing a snow map called Summit in a Team Deathmatch mode, big thing to note was that they were playing against Bots which introduced us to "Combat Training."

Combat Training is designed to introduce a new type of player to Call of Duty and appeal to the player who never takes the game online. Cool part about Combat Training is that you are able to test out your tactics against bots on all the maps with or without your friends. Good times!

Treyarch also demoed character customizations showing your character in the menus to allow you to know how each item added effects you visually.

They talked about Killstreaks, what would a Call of Duty title be without Killstreaks... Napalm Strike, Gunship, Mortar Team, the Radio Controlled Car, and Sam Turret (takes down choppers). Sweet!!

Biggest shocker is that Black Ops will have a currency system to expand on the concept of unlocking weapons they've added COD Points (CP). You earn CP the more you play and also can earn them from completing Contracts. There are three categories of contracts, Mercenaries, Operations, and Specialists. "Unlock what you want when you want."

You can also gamble away your COD Points. Now you can complete a Wager Match - Ante up and put your COD Points on the line, wager on matches. Top three players split the pot!

4 Free for all matches:

  • One in the Chamber - Everybody has one bullet and a pistol. If you kill someone you get their bullet. If you miss, gotta knife 'em. Three lives only.
  • Sticks and Stones - Crossbow, Tomahawk, Ballistic Knife. If you hit them with the tomahawk you bankrupt the player. Cool?
  • Gun Game - Straight from the community... Series of progressive weapons. Ever kill moves you up a level so Pistol, Double Pistol, Shotgun, etc.
  • Sharp Shooter - All Players start with the same random weapon, and then the weapons change at intervals. Everyone is equal. Could be very interesting...

Customizations is a large part of Call of Duty: Black Ops now too. You can now customize your weapons to look the way you want it too. New camoflage patterns, place your emblem anywher, customize the red dot sight color etc. Killcams will reflect this so players will know who killed them. There is also an emblem editor.

Just before cutting to the multiplayer session for everyone to play they showed off theatre mode where you can record, save, tag, search video of your matches.

There was no word of a Call of Duty: Black Ops beta. There will be a video on Xbox Live tomorrow showing off Theater mode. There was no video taping allowed at the event but Treyarch stated that they will have a video in the next couple of days. That's all!  What do you think?
