I gave the Worms Reloaded multiplayer a try earlier today. It plays exactly as Worms 2: Armageddon, but features additional voices, worm skins, a map editor, new hats and other appearance changes. The matchmaking system is also more refined, and I experienced very little lag. If you’re already a fan of the Worms franchise and really enjoy playing Worms 2: Armageddon online, it might worth buying this title to play a slightly enhanced experience. Recommending Worms Reloaded is like recommending Super Street Fighter 4 to someone that already owns Street Fighter 4. If you care enough about the franchise, then buy it. Otherwise, wait for a new game. Just for fun, here’s a bit from one of the more entertaining matches I played.

“e’llo,” said Teh M E after I entered the lobby with my trademark username HavenDan.

“Hey, how’s it going?” I said. Luckily, he couldn’t see that I was intimidated by his British-ness. Being that Worms developer Team17 is a British company, I assumed this would make him a god of lobbing explosives and other harmful objects my way.

“Where u from?” Teh M E asked.

“New York, you?”

“Brazil.” Brazil? That’s not what I was expecting. At least he wasn’t British.

“You ready?” I asked. This is the internet; I didn’t come for a conversation.

“Rdy when u r.” We started the game. Our Worms were randomly deployed among the Sports-themed battlefield with water on the sides. Because of my penchant for Roman history, I named my Worms team the Roman Legends. The Roman Legends featured the olive-skinned likeness of the ever-moral Cato, the all-conquering Caesar, the silver-tongued Cicero, and the hyper-conservative Pompey, all decked out with Roman helms and voices. My opponent had a more eclectic bunch of modern celebrities. His team featured Rick James, Rick Astley, T-Pain and some guy named Mue. They were all wearing Predator masks and could probably see in thermal vision.

The match started with Cicero busting out his signature Homing Missile and shooting Rick James in the face, all the while shouting about “The Republic” and how “Rick James was a bitch.” Rick Astley then Rick’Rolled Cato and Pompey by placing some dynamite underneath them. Pompey attempted to retaliate, but decided to throw a grenade at his former BFF/sworn enemy Caesar instead, knocking him off the stage. Old rivalries die hard.

Spotting a lapse in morality, T-Pain pitied those Roman fools and shot some nearby land with a Bazooka that exploded in his face. Cato sensed an even bigger moral lapse in T-Pain’s pity, so he threw a grenade at T-Pain, knocking him off the stage.

“You such a fag,” said Teh M E. I have no idea what Cato’s defeat of T-Pain had to do with my apparent sexual ambiguity, but I just rolled with it.

“Yes, I am of the homosex,” I replied. Damn, he found me out.

Now it was Mue’s turn. Just because his name doesn’t mean anything doesn’t mean that he wasn’t the most recognizable player this game. In Mue’s two turns, he Ninja Roped to the top of the stage, Jet Packed his way to the other side of the stage, and killed Cato and Pompey. Pompey ended up defeating Rick James and Cicero Jet Packed to the other side of the stage only to plummet to his death.

“GG” said Teh M E

“Word,” I said.

And that’s sort of what the Worms Reloaded multiplayer experience is like.  You can read my Worms: Reloaded review HERE.
