Lots of big news came out of the April 8th Apple event, most of which don't matter to the gaming community though. Up until now the iPhone was scoffed at by the likes of Nintendo and Sony for being called a competitor to the handheld gaming market. Since the launch of the Apple App store the games category has had the most apps than any other category. That's impressive given the fact the Apple App store has over 150,000 apps.
While gaming is obviously a big part of the iPhone and iPad its a much different market than say the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP market. Many different services have popped up like OpenFeint and plus+ that creative an Xbox Live type of experience with leader boards and achievements. Apple has taken notice and with iPhone OS 4.0 due out sometime in the summer, has announced "Game Center." Game Center will connect users with an iPhone, iPad, iTouch, and whatever else Apple decides, to multiplayer games, leader boards and achievements.
Sounds like other services like Open Feint are dead in the water right? While this is a great idea I wonder how well this will succeed. Open Feint is platform independent, whereas Apple's Game Center undoubtedly will be only for Apple devices. Will this hurt or help the service? There is some speculation that the exclusiveness will hurt the service since there is, at least it wasn't announced, no connectivity with other non-Apple devices. Do people really play games on the phones?
The inclusion of Game Center seems like an answer to the pending Windows 7 Phones that have Xbox Live connectivity. Hopefully it will be as robust as Xbox Live but as we get closer to the summer launch more details will be announced from Apple. Personally I think it will be a success and will change the way we game on the run. What do you think?

Apple just announced that they are bringing "Game Center" to iPhones with their upcoming 4.0 software update. Game Center will feature online matchmaking, leader boards and achievements.
From what I'm gathering, you connect to Game Center, select the game you want to play and it will connect you with someone else to play against or with.
More details will be coming soon!

Okay, I know I bag on Apple crap all the time, but this is games related, so I figured I would post it. Not going to make a habit of it, but I was curious what games were the hot sellers now that the iPad is out. Here is the top 10 selling games:
1. The Sims 3 World Adventures ($6.99) 2. Monopoly ($4.99) 3. The Simpsons Arcade ($0.99) 4. Call of Duty: World at War Zombies ($9.99) 5. We Rule (Free) 6. The Game of Life Classic ($1.99) 7. Scrabble ($2.99) 8. Bejeweled 2 ($2.99) 9. Plants vs. Zombies ($2.99) 10. Words With Friends ($2.99)

Not many people believed Apple's claims of 10+ hours on the iPad. Surprisingly enough all of the positive reviews about the iPad and the battery life. Most reviews are citing more than normal usage and getting 10-12 hours of run time on a single charge. Impressive to say the least. Gizmodo recently pushed the iPad to the limits and attempted to drain the iPad's battery as quickly as possible. Gizmodo suceeded and drained the battery in 5 hours and 54 minutes by running battery intensive applications at full brightness. Very impressive!!!!!
